Car insurance in the Netherlands
There are 3 types of basic Car Insurances
- WA (Third party damages)
- WA-Plus (Third party and specified damages)
- WA-Casco (fully comprehensive car insurance)
Third party Car Insurance ( WA ) offers the most basic cover and is the minimum legal requirement. It pays for any damages sustained by a third party, their vehicle or their property if you are at fault. You can choose more comprehensive insurance that covers third party damages, plus you and your car for any injury or damage. These are WA-Plus and WA-Casco.
On top of these basic types you can choose several extra modules to add on to your basic Car Insurance. Examples of these modules are;
- Ongevallen Inzittenden Verzekering (Personal Accident Insurance)
- Pechhulp Buitenland (Breakdown Cover Abroad).
This way you only choose the extra cover you need.
In case of total loss or theft, you are paid in damages what you paid for your car when you bought it. This cover is part of WA-Plus and WA-Casco.
